The role

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Principal Geotechnical Engineer to join our team, working on a wide range of projects. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in geotechnical engineering, excellent project management skills, and a proven track record in leading complex property redevelopment and ground engineering projects. This role involves providing technical leadership, strategic direction and innovative solutions to support our clients’ needs. 

About You

• Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Civil Engineering, or a related Geoscience field. A post graduate qualification in Geotechnical Engineering or Engineering Geology is beneficial.
• Min 5 years experience in geotechnical engineering.
• Proven experience in leading and managing large scale geotechnical projects.
• Chartered Engineer / Geologist (CEng/CGeol) status with a relevant institution (e.g. ICE, Geological Society) or demonstrable evidence you are working towards this.
• Relevant memberships / registrations (RoGEP, MICE, FGS) are a plus.
• Proficiency in geotechnical software for the assessment of slope stability, retaining walls, shallow and deep foundations and settlement / ground movement.
• Strong understanding of soil mechanics, foundation engineering and ground improvement techniques.
• Experience with geotechnical field instrumentation and monitoring.

Key responsibilities

• Provide expert geotechnical consultation and oversight for geotechnical and geoenvironmental projects, ensuring high-quality technical deliverables.
• Conduct and oversee geotechnical investigations, site assessments, soil and rock testing and analysis for foundation and substructures, slope stability, retaining walls and ground improvement design.
• Develop and review geotechnical reports, recommendations and design specifications.
• Lead and manage multiple geotechnical projects from inception to completion.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, including civil engineers, environmental scientists and construction managers, to deliver integrated solutions.
• Prepare project proposals, cost estimates and schedules.
• Act as the primary point of contact for clients, providing clear communication.
• Present findings, recommendations and project updates to clients and stakeholders.
• Comply with regulatory requirements and relevant local and national regulations and industry standards. 
• Stay updated on regulatory changes and industry best practices, integrating them into project planning and execution.
• Mentor and develop junior geotechnical staff.
