Senior finance professional - responsible for oversight and strategy

Who we are & what we do

Geo2 is a 50 strong environmental due diligence, land quality, geotechnical and remediation specialist based in Yorkshire, Manchester, East Midlands and the South.

We're a growing business with strong values - trust, responsibility and collaboration and we're strengthening our finance team to support rapid growth as we treble our turnover, over a three year period.

The role

This is a senior, hands-on finance role responsible for ensuring our numbers are accurate, our forecasts are meaningful and our leadership team has clear visibility of performance and risk.

You will work closely with operational teams and alongside Directors, supported by a Finance Manager and Finance Officer who handle day-to-day operations.

Key responsibilities

  • Overall responsibility for financial oversight and strategy.
  • Lead production of monthly management accounts, related KPIs, analysis and other management information as required.
  • Develop and manage budgets, forecasts and financial planning cycles.
  • Provide performance analysis at a project level - project margins, WIP, utilisation, overhead tracking.
  • Maintain financial controls, governance, policy and audit readiness.
  • Monitor and forecast cashflow, working capital and cash management.
  • Approve bank payments and authorise key expenditure. Negotiation of key contracts.
  • Business partnering - support Directors with financial insight for decision-making.
  • Identify opportunities for improvements in quality and strategy as part of overall business improvements and supporting expansion plans.
  • Process improvements to ensure efficient finance operations as the company continues to expand.

About you

  • Qualified accountant (ACCA / CIMA / ACA)
  • A minimum of 12 months' work experience with responsibility for managing / leading a finance function and supporting the management team.
  • Ideally with experience in consultancy, engineering or a similar project-based business.
  • Practical, improvement-focused and aligned with SME/EOT values.
  • Highly numerate and meticulous, with a logical mindset and good problem solving skills.
  • Experience of using Sage Accounts, proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other packages as needed.
  • Personable, with excellent people management and communication skills (verbal and written) to forge relationships with external and internal stakeholders.
